Everything you need to know about how Hummingbird works.

Hummingbird is a digital marketplace for negotiating firm transportation capacity for the secondary transport market on Alberta's NGTL system. It connects shippers who hold firm contracts with those seeking temporary or permanent capacity, facilitating negotiations between existing contract holders and shippers seeking transportation.
Hummingbird is built for NGTL shippers — including producers, marketers, traders, utilities, industrials and data centers — who either hold firm transportation (FT-R or FT-D) they want to monetize or need additional capacity on a temporary or permanent basis.
Hummingbird creates a centralized marketplace where contract holders can market underutilized firm transportation and other shippers can publish their transportation requirements. Users can compare opportunities across multiple periods and negotiate temporary or permanent assignments.
Users can post or seek temporary or permanent assignments of rights under existing FT-R and FT-D contracts, including opportunities involving alternate access, pooling and multiple delivery periods. Any proposed assignment remains subject to the applicable NGTL tariff, procedures, eligibility requirements and approvals.
Hummingbird uses double-blind* and many-to-one negotiation technology. This allows parties to explore and negotiate deals anonymously* while reaching the best available match, improving efficiency for both buyers and sellers.
*Depending on the meter involved, it may be possible to infer the counterparty to a posting. Full anonymity cannot be guaranteed in all cases.
Yes. More than 30 shippers (producers, marketers, and traders) are already on Hummingbird, with multiple FT-R postings live across various strips, including Winter, as well as permanent capacity listings.
No. Hummingbird is an independent digital marketplace operated by TOTEC Solutions Ltd. It is not affiliated with, partnered with, or endorsed by NGTL, TC Energy, or any other natural gas pipeline operator.
